Life just gets in the way.

The Wrights spent 9 months on an RV road trip! The house was sold, we didn't have another house in the plans, or at least the plan we had fell through, so we hit the road.

The majority of our time was spent in Montana. We were workampers at the Nugget RV Park in St. Regis, MT from April through September. What an experience! It was so cool that we are going back this summer, although for just a couple months.

I have tons to write but no time to relay it all today. I will get caught up ASAP with all our stories.

Can you believe we’ve been staying at campgrounds that have
NO WiFi and NO cell phone signal? We’ve been in the boonies for the past week!
This means I have a few days to catch up on. Check out this picture of Tom trying to get cell service. We did a lot of this!

After we left Niagara Falls we traveled the New York
countryside in search of our campground for two nights. It turned out to be a
very pretty wooded campground. We drove into the Adirondack Mountains and the
fall colors there did not disappoint.

Unfortunately, when we left home Tom had a cold. This cold
had turned into a nasty cough and Tom just felt miserable. I finally told him
we were going to go into town and find an Urgent Care Clinic. When he didn’t
argue with me I knew he must really be feeling miserable. The diagnosis was
bronchitis. A trip to Walgreens to fill some prescriptions and we drove back to
the campground. After dinner, Tom was in bed early.

Next on our itinerary was a couple days in Vermont.
Fortunately it was a short drive. I offered to drive but Tom, being the man,
insisted he drive. We arrived at Kenolie Village campground and as soon as we
were set up I told Tom to go rest. He slept for 2 ½ hours, woke up for dinner
and then fell asleep again on the couch. He woke up and went to bed. The
antibiotics started to kick in within a couple days although Tom is still a bit
tired.

Vermont welcomed us with some fabulous colors. They are
still just beginning to pop but we were able to find a few spots that were very
colorful. We began the morning with a stop at a place that makes cheese. We
were able to peek through the windows and watch the process. There were samples
to be tried and of course we had to buy some! We also found some Vermont maple
syrup. The best thing that was there was a pumpkin spice truffle. Oh my
goodness! Yes, it was to die for!

After lunch at Wendy’s… yes they have them in Vermont also…
we headed out for a drive. We ended up on an unpaved road exploring the
countryside. We happened upon a “garage sale” where the owner’s yard was the
most eclectic mix of decorating I have ever seen. Bicycles hanging from trees,
yard art made out of ski poles and skis, a windchime made from ski poles and
various other items. We never did see
the owner of the place as no one showed up while we were there. At one point I
lost Tom. My immediate thought was this would be the perfect horror movie. All
these creepy items around us and Tom goes missing. Do I jump in the car and
leave him saving myself and the dogs? Not to worry, Tom answered my call and
all was well.

We drove through New Hampshire on to our next stop in Maine.
The fall colors just kept getting better and better. On The Saco Family
Campground was our home for a few days in Maine. This was a great campground on
the Saco River. There was plenty of space between the sites and everyone was
very friendly. The first day we decided to drive to Bar Harbor. Tom checked the
map and didn’t think it looked too far. His failure was that we were not at the
spot on the map he thought we were. We were quite a bit further south. So it
turned out to be quite a long day. Bar Harbor has a fun downtown that reminded
us of a Key West but with a northern vibe.

Portland, Maine was a much larger city. Portland is the
largest city in Maine in fact. We drove around a bit and walked along the
waterfront. This reminded me of Seattle. I decided I NEEDED to see a
lighthouse. I happened to be talking about this while in a store and the
friendly clerk mentioned there was one just 15 minutes away. Yay! Our GPS was a
bit confused but eventually we did find the lighthouse. Not only did we find
the lighthouse but it was also the site of Fort Williams and there were relics
of the fort still on the grounds. The views were awesome. I would have liked to
stay longer but we had three furballs waiting in the RV to be let out. They
were happy to see us as usual. Well, they better be happy to see us! Back in
the car we jumped to head to a restaurant the owner of the RV park told us
about. The best seafood in Maine he said. It sounded good to me! Of course I
had to have the Maine lobster! DUH!!! Tom, well Tom doesn’t like seafood. Crazy
right??!! He ordered the flank steak steak and couldn’t get over how good it
was. We were told we were in Maine during the peak fall color season. Maine had a drought this year. The colors are doing what they call "pop and drop". The leaves change and very quickly fall. All I know is we saw some incredible colors!

Niagara Falls! We had such a great day here. First we went to check out the U.S. side of the falls and had to take a ride on Maid of the Mist. Mist?? Do they know what "mist" is? By the time you get to the falls, that's not MIST! It was like being in a tropical storm. The wind picked up and the water sprayed in huge drops. Now you know why you see everyone wearing those fashionable ponchos. I, Debbie, prepared for the day. I wore my Keen water shoes, shorts and a rain jacket. On top of that I had a dry pair of shoes and another jacket in the car. Winning! The falls were awesome and it really is something to see. Did you know Niagara was the first State Park in the U.S.? There's a bit of trivia for you.

After lunch Tom had us booked on a Jet boat adventure up the Niagara river through the rapids. He didn't get us just any seats on the boat, he booked us the co-pilot seats! We sat right next to the boat captain, one of us on each side of him. The journey was so much fun. The things they can do with those boats is incredible. Our captain was doing donuts and taking us right in the middle of class 5 and 6 rapids. Many times the water washed over the entire boat. Fortunately we were inside the cabin but there is a "wet deck" on the rear where people would get completely drenched. No one was that brave on our tour. You have to see video to understand what it was like. Check it out here http://www.niagarajet.com/.

The next step was to go over to Ontario. Fortunately I remembered to pack our passports just for this occasion. The Falls area on the Canadian side has much more to do. There are tons of shops and restaurants and the view of the falls is better. There is also a boat there to take you up to the falls as well as a Behind the Falls tour and ziplining. We were too late for the Behind the Falls tour and the zipline was closed. I didn't check prices so I can't say whether the U.S. or Canadian boat is less expensive.

We had a remarkable day at Niagara Falls. And now... on to the next stop!
P.S. As we are driving we are seeing more and more changing leaves. I hope our timing is right!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06779840418403123694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8395138810058959696.post-37154158744519586732016-09-28T10:38:00.001-05:002016-09-28T10:38:04.703-05:00It's the EPIC RV road trip! Here we are somewhere in Ohio. Ok, we are somewhere between Cincinnati and Columbus and we are already on day THREE of our latest adventure. The last two nights were spent in Indiana at Follow the River RV Resort outside Florence, IN. We arrived Monday night about 6:30 and camp was set up quickly. We're getting pretty good with the teamwork of getting everything hooked up! Debbie even got dinner started while we set up and it was ready by the time we were. Yes, I'll be honest, it was a simple meal, but still!! Then we sat back to watch the first great debate.

We explored the area a little bit on Tuesday. Tom had to make sure Debbie got to check out the little, ok tiny, ok wee, who am I kidding? It was the MINISCULE town of Rabbit Hash, KY. No, there isn't much there but it IS historic and I guess the adventure is all in getting there. :) We then drove to Vevay, IN and checked out an antique mall. No purchases were made but they had some cool stuff. Baby Bear got meet a giant rubber ducky today. Ok, ok, it wasn't rubber, but it was cute just the same!

Then it was back to the campground and the kids (dogs) (us?) got to have some fun. The RV park is huge with big open spaces and the dogs enjoyed being able to run off-leash. Us? We discovered a bounce balloon pillow. There weren't any kids around to use it and it just looked so lonely. Debbie braved it first and quickly declared we needed one in our back yard. It's great exercise! Tom couldn't be outdone so he had to give a go also.

Tonight's stop shall be Niagara Falls. It's a long journey today but finally we will be getting into some of the states we have never visited before. I have been to New York but I'm not sure changing flights really counts. We are looking forward to what the next few weeks have in store for us!

See ya at Niagara Falls.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06779840418403123694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8395138810058959696.post-65049137955215796872016-09-18T13:18:00.000-05:002016-09-18T13:18:10.620-05:00Deep South Cobra Club GatheringThis weekend we met up with the Deep South Cobra Club. This was our first event with this group and they couldn't have been more welcoming! We had a great time with this friendly group. Friday and Saturday were cruise days. There was a choice on Friday on whether to go the Tail of the Dragon or the Cherohala Scenic Skyway. We had been on the Tail of the Dragon before so we chose the Cherohala. Those that went on the Dragon had a bit of excitement as they were the first upon the scene of a motorcycle accident. Fortunately for us our cruise wasn't as exciting but the drive was awesome. It was every bit as scenic as the Dragon. Everyone met up again for a short drive to dinner.

Saturday the entire group went to Brasstown Bald, the highest spot in the state of Georgia. I've got to say, there were some gorgeous views from up there. It will be really incredible in a couple of weeks when the leaves turn. We had 20 Cobras traveling together. It was incredible sight on it's own!

And when we stop for gas we take over the gas station.

Speaking of gas... we are headed home and heard reports of a gas pipeline leak in Alabama that is causing gas shortages in a few states. We did actually experience this. Some stations were closed completely while others had long lines and were out of some grades of gas.
Interestingly, we are now back in Alabama and haven't seen this here. Tom said it's because people panic and everyone has to fill up just in case. Funnily, Tom was one of them!! We had plenty of gas to get further down the road but he didn't want to risk it, so Roo was topped off.

We had a great weekend in Georgia/North Carolina and now it's back home again. Well, for a week anyway. Next week we begin our epic New England tour. We can't wait!

That's how we roll!
Heading home after an enjoyable, relaxing stay in Pigeon Forge, TN. We parked at Riverside RV Park. Let me just say, they were the NICEST people. The park was clean, the pool was sparkling and the employees were very friendly. We always like to get a pull through site since we were pulling the trailer with the Cobra on it. They had plenty of space for us.

Pigeon Forge was our destination this weekend because it was the annual Shades of the Past car show. We never actually made it to the car show and we didn't need to. All you have to do is drive up and down the main road and you can see all the cars you want to see. People line the street with their lawn chairs just watching the cars drive by. It's like a parade but not officially a parade. There must have been 1000 cars in town. It was a great experience. We did manage to get ourselves caught in a downpour again last night. Shelby Cobra, no top. We seem to get ourselves in that predicament a lot lately!

Forget Orlando. Visit Pigeon Forge! Seriously, there is so much to do there! You can visit Dollywood, play at splash parks, see shows and shop. We attended three shows while we were in town. The Hatfield and McCoy dinner show was so much fun! Audience participation, great food and lots of laughter. We also attended the Smoky Mountain Opry. This was our least favorite. It was okay but not near as entertaining as the Hatfield and McCoy's or the Dixie Stampede, The Dixie Stampede is a western show with horses, skits and more good food. If you've ever been to Medievel Times, it's set up in the same fashion. You eat with your hands and watch the show. Tom was chosen to go in the arena and compete in a game of "horse shoes". I have to admit that I did give Tom a bit of a nudge to volunteer when he was asked. Then I checked to make sure he had played horse shoes before. NOPE! No worries because when he entered the arena he discovered that they weren't really throwing horse shoes but open ended toilet seats. Those of you that know Tom know he can be a ham and he didn't disappoint. He even ended up winning! I video'd it and it was so cute that in the background you can hear a small child saying "go Tom!"

Of course BabyBear went with us. He had his picture taken with some of the cast from the Hatfield and McCoy's. They even shared this picture on their facebook page! Go BabyBear!

One morning we met up with a bunch of other Cobra owners and took a cruise to an apple farm for breakfast. I've got to say that Tennessee has great scenery. Could be a destination next time we move. Yeah, we're always planning ahead.

We didn't have any major hiccups on this trip. Sure, we got caught in the rain but it's just water! We even got to try out the heater in the Cobra. It really puts the heat out. Not like the wimpy heater in our old Cobra. Tom called it a wheezer. Unfortunately running the heater, windshield wipers and engine fans were all the alternator could handle. The battery was dead when Tom tried to start the car this morning Of course, a friendly fellow camper came to his aid. We always look forward to seeing what our next snafu will be. NOT!!

Stay tuned for next weeks adventure!

Oh... friendly tip for you RVers... do not have an overhead fan on when you flush the toilet... yeah... it sucks the air right out of the holding tank... you can imagine the rest.

It's New England in the fall. But not JUST New England in the fall, we are hitting a bunch of bucket list spots also. The route is planned, campgrounds have been reserved and we are ready to hit the road! The plan will take us almost 4 weeks and over 3000 miles to complete.

Our tour officially begins with the first stop at Niagara Falls. We have to check it out. AND I hear there is a zipline across the falls! After that adventure we will make our way through the mountains and eventually end up in Maine. We are hoping our trip is planned correctly so we can follow the fall colors south.

The next major stop is outside Boston. We are so excited to check out some of the things this city has to offer. After Boston will be the Washington D.C. area followed by Williamsburg, VA. There is so much to see in D.C. and I've always wanted to visit Colonial Williamsburg.

We know we won't be able to see everything. If we get a taste of what there is to offer in each place we can make plans later for a more thorough stop.

In case you are wondering... there are extra stops in the map because we plugged in Pilot/Flying J gas stops also! Yep, we have planned! haha

This trip has been in the works for well over a year. Now we just have to wait for the start date. Keep an eye on the blog to see how this epic road trip turns out!
We had an awesome time at the wedding and were able to catch up with others we haven't seen since we moved.

We aren't home yet, but so far there have been no mishaps. I know, I shouldn't have said it!

Two nights were spent at an RV park close to the wedding venue then we moved to Jonathan Dickenson State Park. After visiting our Port St. Lucie friends and enjoying a nice lunch with the bride and groom it was on the road again. I'm not sure where we will end up tonight but that's part of the adventure right?

Please enjoy a picture of rush hour in Jacksonville. THIS is why we love living in the "country".

Here in the Wright family we have "Wild Hair Day". Huh?? What the heck is Wild Hair Day??? Simple. It sets us up for fun! Either of us can call a Wild Hair Day and the other person has to go along with it. No arguments. I (Debbie) called one tonight for tomorrow. Or, I thought it was for tomorrow. I have lost track of days somehow and tomorrow is NOT Friday. So I called Wild Hair Day a bit early. No matter. It still stands! So on Friday we are hopping in the car and making the two hour drive to Nashville. I have a few things planned including attending the Grand Ole Opry. It's just one of those things you gotta do at some point!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06779840418403123694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8395138810058959696.post-22828058943546741202016-07-22T20:34:00.001-05:002016-07-22T20:34:23.888-05:00We are here! Really!Really, we are here. Many posts have been made on our facebook page for Enjoying the Wright Life and I really apologize for not posting here also. Our lives have been crazy these past few months. We up and moved to Alabama! There were many reasons for the move but probably the biggest was because we are gypsies at heart. We lived in Florida, had a successful kayak tour business and decided we had "been there, done that" and it was time to try something new!

It turns out that something new is traveling more! We hadn't even finished unpacking the house when we took a three week trip to Montana. It wasn't all play though, we did actually have work to do there. After spending a few weeks at home, it was time for another trip.

Tom has been wanting to get another Shelby Cobra and he found one. A 1965 Unique Motorsports Cobra to be exact. So it was off to Louisville, KY for the British Bash car show. The was followed by a couple days in General Butler State Park in Kentucky which was on the way to Columbus, OH where we attended the London Cobra Show. Since we were so close to one of our daughters who lives in Michigan it just made sense to drive up there to spend the 4th of July weekend camping with them.

We are now back home and trying to catch up on chores around the house and in the yard. Some relaxation time is in order also. So it's rest up for a few weeks then we are off to Florida to attend our good friend's wedding.

The great thing about RVing is it is so easy to take the dogs with us. But the BEST thing is, it is so easy on us to travel this way.

Until next time...
Roo is decked out with Christmas lights. However, after wandering the campground after dark we have come to realize our lights are seriously lacking. I'm thinking next year we definitely need to rectify that situation! See that white stuff on the ground in front of the RV? It's Florida snow!

This morning, three dogs were loaded into kayaks and off we went down the river. The scenery is gorgeous and the water is so clear we could see the fish at the bottom. Along the way we stopped to find a couple of geocaches. Of course there were gators. It wouldn't be Florida if there weren't!
Yep, if we plan it in advance, it will happen!

December... we will be spending a few days at Hillsborough River State Park near Tampa. This is one of Florida's oldest state parks. It opened in 1938. We plan to relax and do a bit of kayaking. There is a section of Class 2 rapids here. We might have to check it out! Roo will be staying in Tampa for a few days to get some warranty work done.

January... we are off to Manatee Springs to check out one of the places the manatees spend their winters. The Suwannee River is also there so we definitely have take the kayaks.

February... our last scheduled glamping trip before the busy kayak season. This one will be a bit different. We are going to Grayton Beach state park where we will have the best of both worlds. White sand beach AND kayaking.

Fortunately for me, we are parked about 30 feet from the Atlantic catching some rays as I write this. Yep, it's Florida Keys time!

So far on this trip we have kayaked, walked, rode our bicycles and even went out for breakfast one day.

Kayaking is so awesome on the ocean. The water is clear and you can see everything going on underneath your boat. Stingrays, fish, sponges, you name it. The weather has been awesome with just a slight breeze to cool things off. Today is our last day and we are planning another quick kayak trip on a "lake" that is nearby. Tom went on an extended paddle yesterday and came across a couple of homemade boats that were beached. He found out today that a few days before we arrived those boats had carried 16 Cuban refugees over. We missed the excitement. There were helicopters out searching and all were arrested. Yoda and Little Bit were able to do a bit of paddling also. Ok, not paddling exactly but they were along for the ride!

We took the bicycles for a quick 5 mile ride to find a geocache. It was an easy find and the bike ride was really nice. The scenery doesn't get much better than this!

Time to get back outside and do something!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06779840418403123694noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8395138810058959696.post-83863650171483518072015-11-04T11:55:00.002-06:002015-11-04T11:55:49.871-06:00Tom the HandymanThis blog post is a bit late because, well, because I just don't always get around to doing things when I should.

When we bought Roo she had the two original televisions still mounted. Keep in mind that Roo is a 2007 model. Remember what TV's were like back then? They were SO COOL! They had flat screens! They also weighed a ton. Our mission... to replace these "antiques" with new flat screen TV's.

I forgot to take a picture of the front television before we removed it and yes, it took both of us to get that thing out of there!

With a bit of muscle we had it out then Tom was able to figure out a way to mount the new flat screen that weighs MUCH less. I figure without that extra weight I should be able to pack more in the RV. What do you think?

And the finished project. It looks MARVELOUS! Bonus! I (Debbie) got Directv installed and hooked up with just a few minor glitches that were not my fault. Now if it's raining, we can stay cozy inside watching our favorite shows. Yep, this is definitely GLAMPING!

The Martin County (Florida) Sheriff's Office held a Trunk or Treat event. We were among a few cars invited to participate in their car show. We didn't treat it like a normal car show however, we decorated the Lotus!

Over 7000 people came through and unfortunately we ran out of candy after 1000. Next year we will bring more! The Sheriff's Department came by and gave us more candy to hand out but that didn't last long either. The plan was for the Lotus to be a frog. Some people thought it was a lizard... understandable! And maybe even the ones who thought it was Spongebob (after dark so you couldn't see his feet). But a couple asked why a cow was eating a spider. Huh??? Just goes to show some people have vivid imaginations!

We even found our old Corvette at the car show. We had forgotten how nice it looked and of course seeing it made us miss it. I will say, the Corvette is a LOT more comfortable than the Lotus!

I dressed up. Honestly, I have wanted to dress up as Flo for years and I finally got the chance. I had no idea how big a hit Flo would be. People were yelling "Flo!" and I would smile and wave. Small children were looking at me in awe so I would say "have you seen me on TV?" and they would give a little smile and nod. They were so cute! I don't know how many I had my picture taken with. From little kids to adults, people love Flo! Maybe it would be too much but I really want to be Flo again next year because I had so much fun.
It was time for another getaway. What did we do the first day at "camp"? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Sometimes getting away from it all and just relaxing does a lot of good. But on Saturday... woohoo!! We met our friends Angela and Paul up by Groveland, FL at a very small airstrip. This was a surprise for Paul's birthday. He had no idea where he was going and not only was he surprised to see where ended up but he was also surprised to see Tom and I there to greet him. What were about to do? Go hang gliding!!

Note that Baby Bear went too!

This was such an awesome experience. There really is not much instruction to it. The reason for that is because it was tandem hang gliding. We had an experienced instructor with us. It was basically our first hang gliding lesson and we have the membership cards to prove it! Once we were strapped in and comfortable, a modified ultra light towed us up into the sky. Because... well... there aren't any mountains in Florida to jump off! Paul and I both went to a mile high (Angela and Tom went to 2500 feet) and when the altimeter read the correct height the instructor pulled the lever and we were released from the tow. It was incredible up there! The day was gorgeous with a cloud in the sky. We could see for miles. At one point, the instructor asked if I would like to take over controlling the glider. Of course I did!! Truth be told, I wasn't good at it but did start to get the hang of it. After handing the glider back to the instructor, he then asked if I wanted to do some wing overs. Again, of course I did!! It was so awesome to tilt from side to side and swing around. All too soon it was time to land. I was amazed at how smooth the landing was. When I commented on it to my instructor, he told me that was actually a pretty hard landing. I highly recommend giving it a try to everyone! Check out Quest Air Hang Gliding.

Our day wasn't complete just yet. My flight instructor recommended a small cafe that looked like a hole in the wall for lunch. It was one of those places that doesn't look like much from the outside but once you entered it was great. The staff was very friendly and the food was soooo good! Sorry but I don't remember the name.

We took a quick trip back to the RV to walk the dogs and watch the video from our morning excursion then it was dinner time. Medievel Times was the venue of choice. Angela and Paul joined us along with Kelsey and Stephen. We arrived early and I just had to try their "slushie". (Alcohol added) While waiting the guys found a contest to see who could hold a 44 oz. mug of Samuel Adams beer straight out for the longest time. Once again, of course I had to sign up. Each person who tried got a free beer mug and a cool German Samuel Adams hat so why not? Tom should have done it also so we could have a matching set of mugs. There were several rounds and the guys didn't compete against the girls. I was in the first round of females though and outlasted them all. It's tougher than it looks! We wandered off to browse the merchandise and as they were calling us to go into the arena for dinner and the show I saw the beer stein hoisting guy walking around with the big stein that the winners received. So I went up to him and asked if I had won and he said yes! Woohoo! The photo below shows it all. The male winner, the contest host holding the mugs we had to hoist and me with the "trophy".
Medievel Times is a fantastic show. The food was unexpectedly REALLY good. No silverware is given to you. Eat with your hands, just like they did it way back when. We had a blast cheering for the green knight, who sadly did not win. The entire day was a blast made even better by spending it with good friends!
We had a great time hanging out in the RV and visiting. What an awesome new tradition. Unfortunately, we didn't think to take any pictures. We always enjoy teaching this class and getting to know our fellow paddlers a bit better. The comments we receive about the class are always positive and we love that we are able to share some of our knowledge. People are always surprised how much they DIDN'T know.
The smoke from the fires dissipated just in time. Hopefully it will be clear when we head over to Missoula and visit Glacier Park.

First, let's talk about the past couple of days. We had the interesting task of "moving". A trip to Walmart gave a chance to buy a few boxes. The old RV was a MESS as we got ready to trade out vehicles. Once the time came, Tom began transferring items. That man was on a mission! Box after box was thrown into the Bounder and I had no time to even begin putting things where they belonged. With the new RV in total disarray, Tom drove the short journey to Chik fil A. While he ran in to get us some lunch I unloaded a few more items from a cooler to the fridge. Well, I tried at least. The first item I grabbed was the flavored creamer... and the lid came off... and the bottle fell to the floor... and about a third of it ended up all over the floor. Now creamer doesn't clean up as easily as other liquids. It is thick and it is VERY sticky. Alas, the next step was Walmart to purchase a Swiffer. This became very apparently necessary when I tried to move and my foot came out of my flip flop which was stuck to the floor. That mess finally cleaned up (sort of) we headed down the highway.

The trip was progressing without incident until Tom noticed flashing lights in the mirror. Of course he didn't think he was doing anything wrong so immediately he yelled to the back to ask me if I had an overhead light on or something. The patrolman was quite nice. And that's how we discovered we had no tail lights on the Lotus trailer.

Montana REALLY needed rain. Fortunately for them, we brought it! Beginning last night it has been raining non-stop. The forecast calls for rain in Missoula tomorrow also. I guess the Griz game will be a bit soggy, BUT Griz fans won't care.

Sometime during the night our electricity went off. (We are hooked up This morning Tom was taking the first shower in RV. Apparently, when
During our drive from Florida to Colorado we began to discuss the state of our current RV. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with it, we just started talking about how much time we were planning to spend in the RV and decided it was time for an upgrade. Now here's something you need to know about Tom and I, when we decide to do something that means the time is NOW! We stopped at a dealership in Mississippi to check out what they had to offer. This gave us an idea of what we liked and I began researching RV's as Tom drove down the road. See what a great way to travel RVing is? I checked out various dealerships along our route to see what each had to offer and even called a few to talk to the sales people.

We had found a coach we really liked in Billings, MT but we had some time to spare in Grand Junction, CO and decided to check out a few of the dealers. The plan wasn't to purchase a coach in Grand Junction. Really, it wasn't! But we just happened upon the ideal RV for us. As I have said before, this being our second motorhome we now know what we want and don't want in an RV. So, we found ourselves this awesome 34 foot Bounder and fell in love with it. Yep, we were smitten! Because we had so much going on visiting family, attending the wedding and just having a good time, we went back several times to check it out. At one point I told Tom the only thing it didn't have was a washer/dryer and dishwasher. Then I realized that I WAS the dishwasher. If you haven't been around Tom and I much you may not know that we like to joke back and forth a lot. Apparently we were entertaining the salesman also because he said "You two are funny!" Ha!

And so we say goodbye to the Minnie Winnie and hello to our new Bounder. It has plenty of room for the five of us! I'm thinking we need a name for her. Anyone have a good suggestion??

We are already in Utah, heading for Montana and look at the view!

And check out my office! How cool is that? Baby Bear is helping me of course. He was forgotten this past weekend poor thing. He didn't get to go to the wedding and we did take him to CJ and Kayla's house for dinner last night, but once again, he was forgotten in the car.
So… how did we end up traveling in an RV? We both started
out camping in tents, moving on to popup campers, pickup campers, bumper pulls,
5th wheels and finally a fully self-contained motorhome. Why did we switch to a coach? Because we wanted to pull a trailer behind
with our kayaks, bicycles and whatever other toys we might fancy. In April of 2014, we sold our bumper pull
trailer and began shopping for a coach. In
hindsight, we really didn’t know what we were doing. We checked out a few different coaches and
decided on the Winnebago based on the features inside and the Winnebago
name. That was a mistake.

We had the coach less than a week when I needed to take it
Jacksonville, FL for a three week stay.
I “surface cleaned” what I found dirty, loaded the RV and headed
out. A few miles up the road a very
annoying beep began. The coach thought the emergency brake was on. Since we weren’t far from the dealership, we
turned around and went to have it repaired.
A technician came out, looked at it, told me he couldn’t fix it “correctly”
then and put a piece of foam on it. A
couple miles down the road, the foam fell out.
Every time I slowed and sped up again I had to listen to the beep for a
few minutes. He didn’t offer to have me
come back and fix it and I didn’t ask because I thought he done the
repair. By the time I returned from
Jacksonville, our warranty period had ended.
Tom was able to make the repair himself.
Because we didn’t have a tow dolly, Tom followed in our car pulling a trailer
with a motorcycle on it then drove the motorcycle home. The stay for the three weeks would be at
Hanna Park in Jacksonville, FL. Hanna
Park is a great spot located near the Navy base and right on the ocean. A short walk or bike ride takes you to the
beach which is also dog friendly.
Bonus! During the time I was
there, the park was almost empty during the weekdays, but filled up with local
campers on the weekends. There was a lot
to do at Hanna Park including bike trails, geocaching, beach time and kayaking
on the lake. My weekdays were spent away
from the park.

I began to really begin cleaning the RV during the
evenings. This is when I discovered what
a poor job the dealer we purchased the unit from did. The previous campers I bought from dealers,
though used, were cleaned immaculately so I assumed (my mistake) this would be
the case here. We purchased the RV from
a large dealer so it came as a surprise all the problems we encountered. The filth ranged from not bothering to dust
the top of the door jambs to food having been spilled between the table and
window. Mucking out all that old food
and drink took HOURS! The RV served its
purpose for the stay.

Once I returned home I shampooed the carpets FOUR times
trying to get them clean and scrubbed the floors on my hands and knees. I began to do a total mucking out when I
lifted the cushions on the overhead bed and discovered an ant’s nest. We weren’t talking just a few ants. No.
They were swarming and there were a LOT of ant eggs as well. It was SOOO disgusting! I ran to get ant spray and immediately doused
the nest, tracking down the stray ants.
Then the worst part (for me anyway) came. Using the vacuum I began sucking them
up. The sound it made still makes me
cringe.

With the ants evicted from their cozy home it was time to
begin cleaning the upper bunk. What
should have been an easy job turned into a test for Tom. The A/C unit had dripped into the bunk area
where apparently the previous owners had not bothered to keep it sealed. It was our fault for not checking and not
knowing to check for these things but I also feel the dealer should have let us
know about this problem. Tom was able to
remove the rotten wood and replace it.
That man is amazing! Besides
that, there were small repairs to be made that would be expected with a coach that
is 10 years old.

On Monday, August 24, our 2004 Winnebago
Minnie Winnie was packed and loaded. It’s
amazing how much food you can actually get in the refrigerator and freezer in
one of these! We planned to leave
Tuesday but we were ready to head out so why not leave a day early? The first problem? I was enjoying my comfy king size bed too
much for one last sleep. Tom had to wake
me up finally at 9 am. No worries,
within an hour we were on the road! As
Tom always says, plan for contingencies!
The first contingency was a leaking transmission hose only a couple
hours down the road. Fortunately, Tom is
a master at fixing things and in no time (ok, about an hour), we on the road
